2023 Interior Design Trends- How to incorporate them in your home

We saw a lot of Earthy colours and natural materials make it’s presence in 2022 and it looks like a lot of it is here to stay. Along with more bold colours and individuality, this year we’ll be seeing a focus on more sustainable practices in not only the manufacturing of furniture and materials, but also the focus on buying less and buying well.

Below I have listed my top 3 trends for 2023 and how you can incorporate them in your home.

Eclecticism

Eclectic style has been around forever and isn’t necessarily a ‘trend’ but more of a preferred style or way of living. We’ll be seeing more homeowners move away from using just one or two design styles (eg Scandinavian) in their homes and welcoming whatever pieces do the job, yet look beautiful. We’re being encouraged to ‘play the field’ per say and incorporate furniture, lighting and décor that are different styles, but, have similarities that tie them all together.

Vibrant colours

We spent a lot of time in our homes across 2020-2021, especially if you lived in Victoria. Because of this, a lot of people became bored with their surroundings and wanted to inject more fun in their homes interior. Maximalism and the use of vibrant colours can be used in a subdued way, so don’t be scared about your home looking like a circus. You can easily pick and choose where you’d like to incorporate colour. For me, I am painting two out of the four walls of my son’s room a bold blue. He’s 2 and loves blue so why not allow him to have a fun room?

Introducing vibrant colours doesn’t mean you have to shop for the latest releases all the time. If you see something that suits your taste and needs then be brave and get it. It could be a beautiful set of handmade olive coloured mugs to display on your open shelving in the kitchen. Start small and work your way from there.

Buying less, buying well

You may have heard articles about young millennials stalking Facebook Marketplace and refurbishing nana’s old furniture. This may be seen as ‘trendy’ thing to do, but, who cares? I think it’s great that more people are repurposing older belongings rather than buying fast furniture from big box brands all the time. Don’t get me wrong, Ikea has some cool pieces, but if we can reduce the amount of landfill and be smart with our money, along with protecting the planet, then why not?!

Just remember that trends are there for you to gain inspiration from. Don’t feel like you have to include a new trend into your home every year. Your home should reflect your lifestyle and personal taste. The above notes are recommendations on how you can inject personality into you home if you so wish.
