The benefits of hiring an interior designer (and decorator)

If you’re renovating, building, or simply updating your home, the thought of hiring an interior designer may have crossed your mind. But what are the benefits of hiring an interior designer? And what is the difference between a designer and decorator?

Well, let’s start with the differences between the two professions. First of all, it is possible for somebody to work as both (e.g. Me!). I can advise on tile and flooring choices, the layout of your kitchen and the management of trades. Do you need your lounge room styled with new cushions, art and décor? An interior designer can help you nut out the important aspects of your project. Together, you will discuss your budget, lifestyle, and overall vision of the space. No need to stress about the flow from one room to another, or whether the lighting will be sufficient. Having a fresh set of eyes on your project allows for new ideas to be brought to life.

What about an interior decorator?

A decorator is more of a “finishing touch” professional. There is more to it than just chucking some cushions on the couch. (It takes time selecting the right pieces!).

If you had all your furniture sorted but had no clue on how to take your interior to the next level, this is where a decorator can help you. Think lamps, cushions, art, a rug, throws, ottomans, décor for the bookshelf... The list goes on!

An interior decorator will shop within your budget for all of the necessary items to finish off your interior and leave your feeling utterly excited. On top of that, you’ll have the satisfaction knowing that each piece is thoughtfully selected with the overall look in mind. You’ll also have everything in the correct position. (No more artwork hanging super high that you barely notice it).
